Downfiring Sub Box
So i daily drive my 92 TA and would like a sub but don't want to take away functionality from the car too much.
I plan on running one of those newer tiny amps and hiding it either under a seat or in the spare tire well.
I wanted to be able to remove the sub box if i needed the room for luggage on a long trip.
I ran into some down firing sub boxes that should fit in the rear hatch well. They would be able to be put in there and still have usable space since you could put stuff on top of them.
It seems like our cars have about 11.5" of room in the well and Pioneer makes an 8" box that would fit very nicely, but there are two companies that make 10" boxes that should fit as well.
Has anyone ran something like these?

Re: Downfiring Sub Box
There are a few guys on here who have put a single sub in the "bottom" of the rear hatch that still give room on top to put chairs and luggage.
Also, I've seen a few guys use removable sub boxes like yours
One guy has fitted shallow mount subs in the rear sail panel area. 8" and 10" will fit. There are pics as well if you do a search.

I've fit 8" subs in the sail panels with only minor modifications to the 6x9 speaker bracket:

Re: Downfiring Sub Box
I have a similar setup. I have 2x 10s right behind the passenger seats laying flat. I rarely used that space, so it keeps the whole rear well area fee for luggage.
Works fine. Make sure the subwoofer you choose is right for the box dimensions.

Re: Downfiring Sub Box
Do you want the down firing sub to keep it in there instead of taking it out when filling up with luggage?
I think an up firing one would sound better, benefiting more from the "horn" of the glass, etc...
Make it fire up and put a grill on it...

Re: Downfiring Sub Box
I just finished this relatively small box with one 8" sub to drop in the well. It can be removed very easily, leaves a fair amount of space still in the well and sounds really good.
