Ok i was lookin at a Kenwood 300watt amp that was rated at 100x2 @ 14.4 volts and i was lookin at a US Acoustics 300watt amp that was rated at 100x2 @ 12.9 volts. I was wondering if the amp with the lower input voltage (12.9) would put out more power than the amp with 14.4 input volts. Will the amp with 12.9 put out alot more power than the one with 14.4 volts? Also for example if the battery is putting out 13.8 volts will the amp with the 12.9 volt rating put out more than 300 watts and the amp with the 14.4 rating will it put out less than 300 watts?

 

the amp with 12.9v rating will *probably* put out more wattage at 14.4v. All of the more expensive brands, such as mtx, rockford fosgate, kicker, etc, put out more wattage at a higher voltage. the reason why the US Acoustics amp was rated at 14.4v is because that is the least amount of voltage it requires to get the 100x2 watt rating. the US Acoustics probably puts out more like 75-80 watts per channel when in 12.9, but dont qoute me on that.

An amp with a loosely regulated or unregulated power supply will generally put out more power at a higher voltage.
