Forgive me if this should be in the "electronics" forum.

I'm looking for confirmation that the rear speaker harness runs down the passenger side of the car. That would seem to make the most sense to me since the harness that goes to the rear runs down the driver side and you wouldn't want power next to speaker wires. Are the wires simply clipped in wire loom clips as it travels beside the seat? Once it reaches the rear seats, what is the route that it takes across the car?

The only other possible solution that I could think of, which also doesn't make sense, is that it would travel under the center console on the trans tunnel and then branch under the rear seats to each speaker.

Thanks for any help, this was my own dumb fault for not taking the picture of this (and it's not listed in my 8 billion page service manual). I didn't think it would be 10 years till I had the car back from paint, but that's a whole other story...

 

Yup, Pass side of the car,.... it crosses over the body to the drivers side at (about) the back of the pass door and runs along the car in front of the rear seat bottoms. There are a couple small metal 'tabs' welded to the body/floor that hold the harness in place as it crosses the floor in the back.

One other quick question. I was watching a video on youtube after carpet had been pulled and what you described is what I thought I was seeing (so I'm glad that has been confirmed), but those wires were in loom. Granted, that particular car was an IROC (not sure of the year), so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. My question is, is the rear speaker harness suppose to be in loom? Mine isn't, and that is one of the harnesses that I didn't touch (read: have repaired) so I don't know if I should re-wrap it in loom or not.

Obviously, the wire is safer in loom, but since I'm doing a restoration and trying not to modify any more than is necessary....

Yes,..... there should be a loom; don't think I've ever found them not in a loom !?!? I'm sure because the speaker wire loom is small and I often "steal" it from the speaker wiring so I can use the loom to wrap the wiring when installing custom add-on accessories.
