My radio is currently in lock mode and the mute button did not work. Has anyone ever called GM to try and unlock a radio? I called today, and got some instructions but they were stating to push preset button combinations. Unfortunately since they are not labeled I am not sure which are the presets. This is a stock photo below and I assume the buttons circled are the presets? Can someone confirm with me if that is correct, and if so which button is which? Thank you,
If it's a GTA radio than the only way to unlock it is by plugging it into a GTA (with all the other SWC parts intact and fully functional ) and pressing on the MUTE button. That's it..... that's how you unlock a GTA radio.
If it's a Bonneville (or Grand Prix) radio the only way to unlock it is to plug it back into another Bonneville (or Grand Prix). There is no other option unlocking these radios; ( **some** Bonneville radios can be 'hacked'; Proof = a pic of a fully functional 'hacked' DELCOLOC Bonneville radio in my 95Z. )
I think in the past you helped me identify that my radio was a GTA radio. Looks to be part number 16062322. If there is no other way to unlock it is there any other suggestion? Thank you,
An option for a working radio ? An option for a working SWC ? An option for THAT particular radio ??
I know how to get a GTA radio unlocked on my bench. I can NOT verify a GTA radio has a working SWC function. This does nothing to really help anyone else because my GTA radio "hack" is temporary,... as soon as I unplug the radio the radio reverts back to LOC the next time it gets plugged in. The only way to be able to verify the SWC function is to have a full set of spare parts to build a testing system ( or use a different GTA ) and I do not have those parts.
If you want the Steering Wheel Controls to work; you HAVE to use a GTA specific head-unit. I have not found any other way to use the Steering Wheel controller.
I saw someone post here @ TGO - in the last couple months maybe - something about an aftermarket "kit" ( or adapter, or module, or something ) for GTA cars with SWC; you might find it searching the AUDIO forum.
Finally; There are GTA SWC wiring diagrams posted in various threads in this AUDIO forum. I recommend searching for them and printing them out,.... then checking the SWC wiring in your car to try to try & figure out what part of your SWC system is faulty.
Thank you John, you did in fact discuss this some time ago with me. I found it in old messages. I will have to see if someone local can help me troubleshoot the controls. They light up, so there is power to them, but maybe something is wrong in the column.
