Kick Panels and Dash speakers?

Ok, this whole Kick panel thing has me totally confused. Should you have the Q-forms and dash speakers or just the Q-forms?
I was never into car audio and i suppose this a real stupid question.

You could have both...but it may be overkill depending on your stereo setup. IMO I could think of many other things to put $150 - $200 into besides Q-forms, but many people here who have them like them. You can put larger speakers and get better imaging but at the cost of footspace (especially if you have a clutch).
I have my dash speakers band-passed for just the highs and the sound in my car is VERY good. An interesting setup would be:
dash speakers for highs
Qforms and rear speakers for mids
Subs for bass
***assuming you use a crossover***

I bet that setup will kick a$$

You want the highs to be right next to your mid driver, otherwise it will never sound right.

I have kicks and most of the front stage comes from them. However, I also have dash spkrs. The dash ones are crossed over higher than the kicks and the level is attenuated greatly compaired to the kicks. The dash ones are also balanced R-L separate from the kicks to center the image for the driver. This setup helps to raise the soundstage (compaired to just using kicks) without destroying the center imaging. I can also just run the kicks or just the dash if I want to (which helps in setting up everything). This may be a bit of overkill but I already had all the speakers and it works very well for me. (Although I don't compete because I don't think I could win ... I like it though).
