need help with 4th gen stereo

my little bro just bought a 95 ta with the factory cassette hooked up to a 10 disc changer. He wants a regular cd player for the car (not the ten disc). My question is, is there anyway I can hook up a typical cd player (sony, jvc, etc.) to this car and still be able to use the functions on the steering wheel that control volume and station etc. We would like to install a system in the car, so we need a radio with preouts for the amps, but if i did this, would i loose the steering wheel functions? any help would be greatly appreciated.

PAC SWC-2 I believe is the part you want.
any car audio shop that sells PAC accessories will have it.

It makes the steering wheel controls work with any radio that has an ir remote.

ir = infraread. typical aftermarket wireless remote. Have you ever programmed a generic universal remote for your home stuff (tv, cable box, vcr, etc ...) ?? It works the same way. The steering wheel control has one blue wire at the radio that carries it's control signals. You cut this wire from the radio harness, tap it into this PAC SWC-2, which has about a 4ft cord with a little infra-red "eye". You mount this eye where it can see your aftermarket cd player remote sensor (most use the cup holder behind the gear shift). So when you press a button on the steering wheel, the signal goes down the blue wire, to this PAC SW2 box, then to the eye, which sends the signal to the cd player just as if you pressed a button on the cd player's wireless remote. It sounds more confusing then it is.

thanks, his cd player does have a remote, so that is cool. I have called a few radio shops about this and they have given me two different part numbers. Some say swc1 while some say swc2. Are you pretty sure the swc2 is right for a 95 ta, cause i would rather believe you over some stereo shop cause they all want me to have them install it.? And how much should this thing cost, i have been told prices from 59-109 bucks. Thanks again for all your help. You are teaching me a lot here.

just double checked the website (www.go2pac.com).

You want the SWI-2. As far as price, I think I've seen them on the web for as little as $60, so some local places will prolly have more markup.

Thanks, i checked out the website too. Looks like i will have to wait until my brother gets some more money, for now we will just put his cd player in and wire the remote later. Thanks, you've been a big help.
