Berlinetta radio issues
Berlinetta radio issues
I just bought an 86 Berlinetta recently and I'm having radio issues. It seems to work intermittently. The tuning will work occasionally the volume never wants to work especially turning the volume up. Wondering if this is a common issue I'm not aware of or something deeper. I haven't done much other than replacing the fuse (was blown when I bought it) and playing with it but no luck.

Re: Berlinetta radio issues
*MOST* Berlinetta radio 'function' problems ( balance/ fade, volume, station reception, etc.... ) are caused by the Receiver part of the radio; the part that's installed inside the center console. It's possible that your volume issue is caused by - or related to - the button pack on the post-mounted 1/2 of the radio. ( part that swivels on top of the console. ) My bet is that the Receiver is causing the problem.
The 86 Berlinetta radio is NOT the same as a 84 / 85 Berlinetta radio. The 84-85 style was similar but NOT the same,.......the internals and buttons/backlighting changed in 86. ( The 86 radio looks better IMO too, especially at night. ) You can use an 84-85 radio in an 86 - and visa/versa - but you just have to use BOTH parts of the radio.
** An Equalizer radio receiver is NOT the same a a non-Equalizer radio Receiver. They look the same from the outward appearance, but the EQ version has additional circuits inside to control the EQ functions. An non-EQ Receiver can be plugged into a EQ Radio Pod,..... but you will only be able to control the BASS and TREBLE adjustments. ( If you buy a replacement just be sure you know what you need and what you are getting. )
