Is this a feasible idea?
basically all the passengers always complain how loud the backseat can get when u turn up the radio or if they want to go to sleep. I was thinking...i run a amp switch on my sub amp to turn it off when i dont want it..why not the sail panel speakers? After i get my components they'll be run by a 2 channel amp, but what i was thinking was running a toggle switch right off the turn on lead, and mold the switch into the ashtray in the back of the console within reach of the rear passengers... so they can turn off the amp so the sail panel speakers will turn off.. good idea? bad idea? Suggestions?

that sounds like a good idea, but couldn't u do the same thing w/ the fader?, just make all the sound go to the front speakers?
maybe you could put a gain switch before the amp?

You actually have passengers in your back seats ? I thought they were there for looks
.
Seriously though, if you want to get trick, just mount some volume controls on the speaker leads going to the sail panels. That way the only option isn't on or off. Select Products carries the nice ones (not the cheap Radio Shack stuff).

Just curious, but isnt the sound that comes from those front speakers rather worthless when they are all by themselves? With no lower end, it would be more painful to listen to them by themselves than to just turn the radio off....
Other than that, Who cares what the passengers say!
You can wire any switch you want to... all it does is cut off current. Sound is a signal.. it can be cut off!
Have fun!

Wanna have some fun with someone? Turn your treble all the way up, fade it to the 6x9's, wait until someone's sleeping back there, then pop in a Mariah Carey CD and turn it up! They won't be able to hear for a little while, but it's fun!

Well, if you want to invest into some door pods, or some kick pods, you can get your low end for the front, and then just get a four channel amp to run all the speakers in the front, this will push up your front stage, and then just put the fader, all the way to the front so that way you can still have your music, and your friends. (back seats not thhhaaatt bad,: ) )

Inside my center console compartment I have a switch to turn off my subs, another for my kicks, and two volume control pots for my dash. These controls are great for diagnosing problems, tuning, or just when I don't feel like hearing my subs.
I used to have a switch just to turn off the subs until I found out my head unit had that feature built in. And that was NOT in the manual.
BTW my operational theory is always that my passengers don't help me pay for any part of anything in my car, so who cares how it sounds to them. Everything's made and tuned to sound good in the driver's seat and that's that. Besides, anytime I have passengers, the stereo is off anyway.
