amp, subs and speakers...
Hey, tell me if this will work...
When I get an amp, probably a 2 ch 400w or something like that, can i use the 4 channels on my stereo for the 4 speakers in my car and then run the RCA jacks to the amp and from the amp to the subwoofers? I dunno much about this stuff...
Also, what's the difference between a regular amp and a subwoofer amp? Can I run subwoofers with a regular amp?
Thanks,
Jordan

Yes you can run your four speakers off your head unit. You will need to run RCA cables and a remote turn on wire from your head unit to your amp. You will then run speaker wire from your amp to your speaker. Also, don't forget the power and ground wires.
Subwoofer only amps are normally mono block amps, which means they are not a stereo amp (basically, they only have on channel). They are usually geared more for getting good bass out of your music. They are not designed to run your mids and highs is what I'm saying. It is possible to run subs off of a typical amp. Just run the wires the same you would for your mids and highs, unless you want it bridged or something, and that gets more intricate.
I would recommend finding a someone who knows about stereos to help you the first time. If you are farily mechanically inclined, you should be okay on your own though.
