what is the best way to wire subs to get good power and sound quality balance. i know you cant get both. is parallel and mono to get a 1.5 ohm load bad? the subs are two 6 ohm dvc 12".

Basic audio rules state that a lower OHM load increases THD (Total HArmonic Distortion); But when dealing with lower frequencies (below 80Hz), wiring in a 6 Ohm, 4 Ohm, or even a 1 Ohm load, I would challenge anyone to be able to hear the differences in THD.

When dealing with a sub playing below 80Hz, the OHM load is not going to make a big difference in sound quality. The biggest sound quality difference will come from enclosure design, cut-off frequency, and Amplifier quality.

The 1.5 Ohm configuration you are suggesting will work fine, as long as your amplifier is able to handle that low of an OHM load.

If you have a dual channel amplifier, I would wire each sub to a channel in a parallel config of the voice coils.
So, take one sub, wire the coils in parallel, and connect to the right channel.
Take the other and wire it to the left in the same config.

If you wire all 4 coils in a parallel config, you will be taxing your amplifier out pretty heavily, and it will run very hot. heat also translates into THD. The hotter it runs, the more THD you get.

What kind of subs are they? What are they rated for in RMS watts? What amp are you using?

Thomas.

the subs are ma audio model p120xl 6 ohm dvc.
the amps im looking at are model hc2502 and hc4002. the guy i bought hte subs from said he runs them off the 2502 in full parallel to draw a 1.5 ohm load. both are on the ma audio website at-
www.maaudio.com

thanks for your help
