Pretty versatile speaker, actually. I have one that I'm selling to my brother 'cause I don't want to officially part with it.

I loved the sound quality that I got from it, but at the same time it worked extremely well with the metal that I'd throw in the CD player too.

They're not boomy (although I had mine in a sealed Sound Q setup so maybe you can structure it to be boomy), so if that's what you're looking for, I'd look elsewhere.

JL makes a great speaker, and the W3 is a great line. They sound very good in a small sealed box. They will give you nice, deep, accurate bass (if the box is tuned properly). 2 12w3's may be overkill in a thirdgen, in my opinion...but then again I am quite happy with the amount of bass produced by my single JL 10w6. They are a quality speaker that I would recommend highly!

overkill is fine with me :-) I'll also be running 210w to each one, I assume that will be pretty good.
