Is this possible to do?

this isnt in my firebird, but in my boat. I have 2 orion 8" DVC subs in there, 350 watt max on each. When i ordered them i was told they werent DVC so i only ordered one amp, its stable to .5 ohms...2 channel. Would it be possible to run both DVC subs off the one 2 ch amp? If so, how would i wire it? Good instructions would be good since i dont know car audio wiring too well...thx guys

If they're XTR 8 DVC's they I'm guessing the voice coils are 4 ohm each.

You have two choices: wire the coils in series, or wire the coils in parallel. Wired in series you'd have a 8 ohm load per channel and would Not be getting the most from your amp. Wired in parallel (the better choice) you'd have a 2 ohm load per channel.

To wire the coils of the subs in parallel, use 2 lengths of speaker wire for each sub instead of one. Connect the (+) on one coil of the right sub to the (+) of the right channel of the amp. Connect the (+) on the other coil of the right sub to the SAME (+) of the right channel of the amp. Do the same thing for the two (-)s on the right sub and by connecting them to the same (-) on the right channel of the amp. Then do the same to connect the other sub to the left channel of the amp. (I hope this is understandable).

This would be wiring the coils in parallel and running the amp in stereo with a 2 ohm load for each channel.

Another (even better, if possible) method would be to bridge the amp to one mono channel and wire all 4 coils in parallel. This would result in a 1 ohm load for the amp. Since you didn't mention the make/model of your amp, I'd be cautious of doing this. Is the amp 1 ohm stable BRIDGED MONO. It may be stable at 0.5 ohm stereo and NOT stable at 1 ohm Bridged Mono. You need to check before hooking it up this way.

If you want more help it may be quicker to e-mail me or post again and someone else may help.

You could also parallel the coils and series the subs and bridge the amp and get a 4 ohm mono load. There's a whole bunch of ways to connect your subs to your amp. Let me know what you're not understanding and I'll try to explain.

ok...i wired the subs in parallel like u said, but ...not working. I can connect one sub in parallel on one channel, when i connnect the other both subs dont fire. Would low voltage cause this? Im running the amp/radio off of the 2 deep cycle batteries with the boat off. Maybe if low voltage i may need a capacitor as well?

I'm confused as to why it didn't work with both subs connected.

I replied to your e-mail with some ideas to try. Let me know if I can be of further help.

You need to learn the difference between series and parallel. Goto www.caraudioforum.com for a deep explanation
