what is clipping???

i'm not so sure i know what it is....

Sound can be seen (as with a scope) as a sine wave. Clipping is when the signal is amplified so much that the top and bottom of the sine wave becomes flat. So when you listen to music, the clipping will try to make the speaker move in an unnatural way. Since the speaker cannot reproduce the clipped wave, it will sound bad and damage the speaker.

Clipping normally occurs when the input gain of an amplifier is set too high.
The amplifier adjustment should be set appropriately for the deck's output voltage.
ie) The higher the output voltage, the lower the input gain.

If the incoming signal is too strong (voltage too high), the sound wave will "clip" and produce distorted.
