How about pics of thirdgen installations

I'm looking for ideas for an installation of two 12" subs. I would like to see various installations.

GrdPrx, did you use just plain masking tape so the glass would not stick? Also the blue stuff over the fuel tank, is it just sound deadener?

Yeah, the blue stuff is B-Quiet Original sound deadener. I would not recomend this stuff as I'm currently having problems with it.

For the fiberglassing, I used the masking tape to cover all the area and then put 2 coats of wax over the tape. The wax acts as a release agent for the glass so it doesn't stick to the body, the tape just protects from any drips. The correct mold release would be PVA, but wax works in a pinch

87IROCZ Do you have any specs for oyu box? I made one almost exactly like it but the subs were angled about 15* forward and the box was a bit taller. Nice isntal though

I guess I should plan on glassing then. I get resin for free along with Dynamat. Only thing I have to pay for is the mat + brushes + cake pans.

Mista, just courious as to why you would want to put $$$ into a jap car and not into a thirdgen? What have you done to your civic to run 13.6s@100mph?

Probably for the same reason anyone mods their cars. I don't care what kind of car I ever have, whatever it is, I'll mod it (unless it's ultra-rare, but I'm not a collector, so who cares).

I started with V8's years (20!) ago, mainly Buicks. Got a family and went 4 pooper. Traded in a 87 Cav on a 93 Honda. On test drive I noticed that I was going 60 mpg in third and car still had alot left. My Honda is setup for drag, autox, and daily driver. This is hard to do with any car. I am lobuck but willing to tune. I have over 450 1/4 mile passes on the Civic and will kill most anyone bracket racing. The only mods are just normal bolt-ons + 55 shot of NOS and slicks. I only have the SOHC motor and not the big swaps like most others. My goals are 12.99 this year or spit the rods out. Once I get a 12.99, the NOS system moves over to the Trans Am and the Hunder becomes a road race car. I plan on swapping in a 383 this winter into the TA, but will do the cheap mods for now. Crap, my peanut cam 305 put down 199 corrected HP with just a "*******" intake.

You will find I'm not like most Import folk. In fact alot of the info that I gave to the Honda group is based on what I learned from V8's. Only because it has 1/2 the cylinders and 1/3 of the displacemnet, it is still a 4 cycle gasoline burning motor.
I've got very little money in the car. IU research part before bolting them on. Added on parts must work with each other. Nothing like user a 305 duration cam with a 1800 stall RV convertor and a 390 cfm carb on a 400 SBC.

Amps? Oh **** i knew i forgot to install something!! Ok, seriously now. I have a Sony X-plod amp installed underneath the box. And no it doesnt over heat. It actually keep quite cool. Its gone through numerous 90 degree days in the past two years and i have never had a problem with it.

I eventually got everything to line up flush and finished the carpeting, it was a fun install to say the least. I got tired of that stuff so I tried to sell the boxes, but no one wanted them (even for free) so I threw them away *shrug*

Yup, its a plate. And i know how everyone says plates suck and they sound like crap, but it sounds great. Everyone thats heard it cant believe its not a box. I have the plate cut close enough thats its more like a force fit against the panels.

Hey 87Iroc-z, I like your install man that is cool. Are those free air speakers? The reason I ask is that I have a plate system in mine and everyone tells me I need to get free air speakers for it to sound right.

Yeah, what are some good free air speakers. I like the plate b/c it does not take up too much space except I forget where I saw it but the plate was angled fowards, I like that too.
