They all stick out. Your new radio is much deeper than the stock radio, so it's necessary for these kits to stick out. The only other choice is to modify the console and make your own kit.

It's not too hard to make your own mounting panel out of ABS plastic. Check out the install I did in my '91. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Album...newphotos=true I just replaced the factory radio panel with an abs one. To fit depth wise, you may need to slightly modify your heater ducts. (I used a heat gun). To fit the half din EQ I had to lengthen the wires going to the gear select switch.

Go to any car stereo store and tell them you want the Metra 99-4544, the GM Multi-Kit. This is the one that comes in a huge bag, with lots of parts.
Anyway, the kit comes with several different front plates you can choose from, and one of them is flat. Using the flat piece, assemble the kit according to the instructions.
Install the aftermarket radio into the kit.
Pretend like you were going to screw the kit into the car...you'll notice that it won't go all the way in. Notice the black plastic piece that is in the way.
It only takes a few minutes to remove the radio housing from the car...or you can leave it in, your choice. In any event, you want to trim just as much black plastic away as you need to. Leave a little bit, because this piece also holds the console in the car.
By the way, this kit is flat, and does look very nice like you probably want, and it's how I did my car too. But I just wanted to point out that like Jim said, if you have enough skills and time (or money), you could also build your own kit that would look even more custom.
