Alpine V12 MRV400

I have this amp and was going to use it to power two MTX 10" Thunder6000 subs, each sub is rated at 250 and the amp is rated at 100x4 so I was thinking each one get 200 watts maybe more if it is underrated. Then I was going to put ALpine 6x9s in with 30W RMS and let my Alpine head unit with 30x4 power them and have Infin. Kappa 4x6 plates(60W RMS) powered buy a smaller amp later on, something that puts out 50 to 60 watts RMS. What do you think?

You almost always end up with underpowered 6x9's if you try to power them with the head unit at high volume. Even those with MOSFET amplifiers in them.

Also, head units that advertise 40 or 50 Watts per channel fail to tell you that it's peak power. Read the fine print and you will find the head unit puts out around 20 to 25 Watts of usable (RMS) power per channel at a reasonable distortion level (less than 1%). So if you want to drive your front and side speakers with a clean signal all the way up to their rated power peak you'll need an external amp.

what about this, Hook up two channels to the sub for 200 RMS and 1 channel for the 4x6s for 100 RMS and 1 channel to the 6x9s for 100 RMS. Now seeing the main speakers are only 60 W RMS will I blow them out and is there a way to keep from doing this beside not turning up the it all the way.

You would be better off to hook up the subs to two channels (like you said), then hook up your 4x6's & 6x9's in parallel with the other 2 channels. That way you still have left/right balance control. You can also run a high pass signal (from a crossover) to the side of the amp you're running the 4x6's, 6x9's off of. This will extend the lifespan of your small speakers. If you run it this way it should all go together quite nicely.

Ok, yes but I have changed my speaker selection after further investagation and guess what, Cruchfield is $10 cheaper the Online Car Stereo on all the of them but the sub(which online does not have)?! Go figure?
4x6-Infinity Kappa 462.1cf Plates with 60 RMS
6x9-Infinity Kappa 693.1i with 100 RMS
Sub-Single Infinity Kappa 10" 250 RMS

Good system? How well do you think it will sound when put together?

The crossover is a good idea, should I put it on the 6x9s as well, what type do you recommend, I was looking as the 139.00 Alpine unit with 2 channels? What about the Bass Blockers? I will be away for a weeks, just keep the replys comming.

Yes put the crossover on the 6x9's, they have no business trying to reproduce sub-bass (you'll have to anyway because you can't seperate the signal from your 6x9's & 4x6's with your setup). As far as bass-blockers, are you talking about capacitors? If so, they suck. Not worth it unless you really can't afford even the cheapest electronic crossover. Crossover brands: I'm not familiar with what Alpine has but I have a 1/2 din Audiocontrol 3.1 & it kicks a**. It allows adjustment of sub volume & everything right from the drivers seat.

Exactly. Word of warning though, it's a tough squeeze gettin it in there. I think I have about 1/8" of plastic above & below my AudioControl. I also had to lengthen some wires going to my Auto-shifter lever. It's worth it.

but you see, I have a 5 speed!
that was also a good guess, i really don't know much about these crossovers yet, it would be great if you could give me a tutorial about it. Like what wires hook up where and such what is does, where to limit the bass at for the smaller speakers. Bla bla bla bla and where do get one with green lights to match my Alpine.

I'll give you the Readers Digest condensed version. Basically, the signal (RCA) from the deck goes into the crossover unit. The crossover divides the frequencies and puts (for example) everything below 100 Hertz into a "Sub out" channel. Everything above that goes to a "Front" or "Rear" channel. Then you would run an RCA from the "Sub out" to the side of your amp that's pushing your sub. Another set of RCA's would go into the side of your amp running the Mids/Highs. With your sub playing only low frequencies it sounds much cleaner and can handle more power. With your midrange speakers not trying to compete with your sub and play bass, they also sound much cleaner and don't distort when you turn the volume up. What you set your cutoff frequency to is a matter of personal preference (it really varies by system too). I listen to a lot of rap and I like it set from 80 to 90 hertz. As far as wiring the X-over into your dash it's just a power, ground, & remote usually. Audio Control has green or amber lights via a switch. I used to have a Pioneer that did that too.

I'm not a rich guy (house payment, kids, etc.) so I get a lot of my equipment from newspaper ads & things. My EQ/X-over cost me $100, I think retail is $250-300. That link you posted seems to have some good prices on stuff.
