Which is better??

I'm about to build a sub box for my 87 Camaro SC, I'm going to be sticking a pair of 10" subs into it. Which gives better sound quality: a ported box or a sealed box? Also I plan on making just 1 huge box so is it better to seperate the subs with a divider or not? And finally, is it better to run the subs in parallel or series and how will it affect my sound system? I'd very much appreciate any advice.

One thing I would look at is how many cubic feet the enclosure is going to be and then look at the specs for the subs. This is pretty much a generalization on my part but I have mostly seen 10's in a sealed enclosure if they are getting a cubic foot or less and a ported enclosure if the box is a bit bigger. All depends on the sub. Someone correct me if I'm off. I won't cry. Also depends on the music you listen to. I like the sound of a sealed box because I listen to more rock and stuff that isn't really boomy.

Sealed generally yields better quailty, and is easier to build. Ported is 3 db louder with all other variables the same. So you'd probably want sealed. I would put a divider in the box, because of various benifits. If everything is working properly, a divider (or lack of) should not make the sound louder or of better quality, but it adds bracing, and isolates the subs in case one fails. The wiring of the subs really depends on the impendence of the subs and the design of the particular amp. Hope this helps.

hrmm, if i was you, i'd go 2x12" but thats just me. heh - well, i'd build one big box, but put a divider in the middle so that each sub has its own airspace. i ran my solo SL7-12's in a series. i was told if i was to run it paralell, it would make the amps run at lesser ohm's and thus make the amps run WAY hotter. oh well, just make sure your box has a divider in the middle dont take to heart what i said about the subs, i might be wrong
