sub vibrates, need suggestions

I got a great deal on an alpine s-series sub. I put it in a cheap walmart box. But first I lined all of the inside corners of the box, and the bakc side of the terminal, with silicone. Then I set the sub in the hole and screwed it down. It worked great for awhile, but now it vibrates. It's almost like a screw cam loose or something, but that's not it. It's not sealed around where the sub lip sits on top of the carpet. Should I take it out and put silicone on the carpet where the lip of the sub will sit? I don't really like globbing silicone on my sub, and gluing it in place forever, but if that's what it takes, I'll do it. I need some advice. Anything and everything is appreciated. Thanks

-Brian

What kind of sub is it? Sounds like the sub itself maybe had a magnet chip in the Voice Coil or something.

you kinda mentioned that. Try removing the sub from the box and don't turn up the radio loud but just enough to get some movement out of the sub. Does it still make the noise?

I won't flame ya. I've heard them and they sound fine to me. Some I like better and some I hate worse so no complaints here.

ok, I can't take the sub out until this weekend, what do I do if it's not the sub itself?

Usually it's other things in the hatch that rattles and it's hard to pinpoint. I had a rattle that took me weeks to find and I found out that it was my carjack. The chance that it's the sub is pretty slim but I was suggesting that you check that just so you could rule out the possiblity. Find you a place far away from neighbors or other people so you can crank up your stereo and open the hatch and listen for the rattles without getting the cops called.
