Im very disapointed with my system
.
Since I replaced my head unit with a kenwood it really makes the speakers sound sick. These are kenwood and clarion speakers and they just sound trashy. My brother has the same kenwood in his 2000 ranger with the stock 2 speakers and it sounds killer "for real" I want to replace the 6x9's there kenwood but there about 8/10 years old is there a good pair of 6x9's that fit behind the sail's and produce great bass? I at least want the 6x9's putting out as much bass as an 8. Is that asking too much or do I need an actuall sub? The clarion 4x6's sound sick and I need to kick the bias +6 in the front to even hear them. Is putting some good tweeters in the front a good idea? I just really need suggestions I dont want a box clunking around the back "screaming steal me" I would at least settle for the sound quality of a good factory system like the carivans or the impalas.

Well, if you'd be happy with the same output/quality as a new factory system, get some new 4x6 plates (with the seperate tweeter and round mid) for the dash, and some new 6x9's. Those with your new head unit would sound better than alot of factory systems. There are alot of brands for 4x6 plates and 6x9's, so just go to a shop and see what you like. But dont expect anything close to sub output from 6x9, especially without an amp. The location of the 6x9's in the sail panels is not optimal for bass response. You can still get nice results though.

Thanks Mike, I did forget to metion I do have a good 250w amp powering the 6x9's but its turned all the way down seems to be overpowering the 6x9's if its turned up a little it sounds like static.
So what about putting 8in "suposedly sub" woffers in the sails? I remember 1 guy did it but I would kinda like to keep the cloth covers on, is that possible or would it blow the covers off? "IMO Metal needs bass no mater what people say!" <--
just my little rant

Well, you could probably fit 8's in the sail panels, but I dont think it would be worth the trouble. There are a couple problems with subs in the sails...It would be very hard to create a sealed enclosure in there with enough air space after you do fit the sub in there, and due to the acoustics of the car, it's hard to get lots of bass out of the sail panels, whatever speaker you use. A nice set of 6x9's off an amp can still be punchy. If you're handy, you could try to make a stealth box with a 10 to replace the locking box in the back, or on the other side where the spare is. Then you could hide it and still have your well space, but still have some decent bass. Djsexay (the guy who makes all the kicks) was considering making these in the future out of fiberglass, for around $300 I think if he does it. Or you could just do like alot of people and just cover your stuff up (I use the little rolling privacy cover thing). What kind of amp do you have on your 6x9's? 'Static' sounds more like amp distortion, whereas overpowering speakers usually makes more of a 'popping' noise.

Thanks Mike
I pulled the boston acustics from the blazer they dident sound very good in that but they have a higher Watt rating than the kenwoods so I'll give them a try in the bird.
Have you, or anyone ever used boston acustics "RX97"? they seen to have some good reviews! Also I cant seem to find any reviews about the kenwood "KFC-6972" that were in there. anyone?

I just thought I would put in my 2-bits.
I have never found a decent set of 6X9's. The bass is far too light and they have to sacrifice the mid's and tweet's to get the bass speaker.
I would highly recommend using 5" or 6" component speakers and get a bass tube or subwoofer encloser.
Even with a modest 10" sub you will get far better sound with the component 6's than with 6X9's.
Please don't flame me on this one. It's just my opinions. I am sure that other's love the sound from their 6X9's.

No your correct

I took the kenwood 6x9's out and replaced them with the boston RX-97's and it sounds fairly similar to the kenwood in bass responce and the bostons are top of the line 6x9s. Im in the process of installing a 10 band pass that im going to cover/hide so no one swipes it.

I'm probably gonna get laughed at but I'm just trying to help. My stock 6x9's sounded like crap so I went shopping. Bought myself a apir of optimus 6x9's for 50 bucks. Sounds much better than stock, even though it isn't close to being a sub. Just my 2 cents.
