Where does the gray wire in the radio harness for a 91 FB go?
Im trying to figure out why my inst lights wont work. Ive found power through to and out of the fuse box. I found a gray wire that goes to the radio harness. I dont have it connected to anything on my aftermarket harness. What is this wire? I put power to it and it burnt my printed circuit on my cluster. It broke in two spots. Can I fix this with a little solder? The gauges work, i think i burnt the circuits for the backlighteing? So what should this gray wire go to? Its a solid gray wire in the radio harness. Thanks for the help.
I checked in my manual & it looks like it carries 12V down from the dash light illumination.
12V is supplied onto the gray line when you turn on your lights. This line is usually used in the deck to turn on the illumination. Most aftermarket decks do not use this line - they use the dimmer control (brown).
By the way: the grey line is connected to the following - Cluster Illumination, Map Lights, Defogger control, Fog Lights, Shift Indicator, Heater Head light, Ashtray light, & I/P fuse panel (Inst LPS Fuse).
