questions about my deck

I have a kenwood kdc-s2009 cd deck, its kinda old but it says it puts out 35w x 4. I'm not exactly sure what that means. I'm a bit of a newbie to car audio but I learn more everyday. I went to this audio warehouse and this salesman was helping me figure out what kinda sound system I want. We started with the 4x6's and the 6x9's. I'm focused on the kenwood KFC-4675C 4x6's and the kenwood KFC-6906S 6x9's. The salemsan told me my deck had enough to power all 4 speakers. I checked the kenwood website and the power handling for the 4x6's are 60w (each) and for the 6x9's its 170w (each). Correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldnt my speakers be underpower if my deck is only 35wx4? Also, I assume that power handling is how much it can withstand, rather than a requirement. Will my deck be able to power them all or will I need to invest in a good amp?

Whats going to **** you off even more is that head units list thier MAX power not the RMS that they actually constantly produce. For instance most pioneer heads advertise at 45x4 while they only really put out 15-18 constantly...

The wattage on the speakers you want to buy is related to the level of output that they can produce. It does not represent a direct power requirement. Your 35wx4 in-deck amplifier will be able to power the speakers adequately.

One thing to think about, though: a great deal of the sound clarity and quality comes from the 4x6 speakers in the dash. You may want to think about focussing on getting higher quality 4x6's rather than 6x9's. However, if you are looking for more base in your music, stick with the more powerful 6x9's. Just a suggestion.
