Hey Will 150W X 2 work on 1200 WATT MAX subs?

I'm puttin 2 12" Pioneer 600W (300W RMS) Subs in my camaro. I don;t have ton of money left for an AMP and i was goina buy a 150W X 2 Rockford Amp. since that 150W X 2 is roughly Half (??) the power I need, will i blow anything up using it? overheat the amp?
Thanks!

Provided the amp is setup right, it should sound good. If that is the amp you are gonna stay with, you might consider porting the box if you just want spl(loudness).

Amplifiers are sorta like motors, and speakers are sorta like tires. Even if your tires are Z rated (149mph) doesn't mean they won't work on a car that only goes 100mph.

Ah, Yes, good analogy indeed. However, If what you say is true, and from what I've been reading on Other posts, if you, say, try to squeeze every last ounce of power out of your amp (motor) you will blow it up. Since we are using analogies, I might as well put a super charger on my amp. or maybe a 250 Shot of NOS. think that will blow it up? I know advancing the timing like 100 Degrees would. that would be turning the gain up right? I know, Ill change my cam. Make the amp all lopey soundin ;-)
I like this analogy stuff.

But THANK YOU you have answered my question completelly.

On another note, I'm having somone build me a box for the 2 12" subs and I was WONDERING...
He asked me which way do i want them to face? UP? Forward? Backwards? he says he can do it anyway I want, and possibly backwards might sound good. Everyone always has theirs facing up though... Is that the best way? It will be sitting in the hatchback.

You're right, if you try to overdrive the speakers with a lower powered amp, you'll kill them. The simple solution here is to not turn it up any more as soon as the music starts to get a little distorted.
