Need Help with Amp/Subs

For some reason, my subs are not working. The amp is getting power, although the protect light it on. So the first thing I did was to make sure the ground was still connected. It is. Sometimes it will come on then fo back off. Does anyone know what I should do or know what the problem it? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

No, the most likely thing is that you have your subs running at too low of a load, trying to make the amp make power. Like your trying to push a 2 ohm load but the amp isn't 2 ohm stable. This happened to my first system I ever had. What kind of amp and subs are you running? Is the amp a 4 or 2 channel? If the protect light is coming on, and it works sometimes, it is not blown. And switching the + and - would just make the subs hit backwards and not sound good, it wouldn't turn on the protect light. Your amp also might be overheating. Does the amp stay on why the volume is low and then turns off when you go to turn it up?
