No bass
First off, I would like to say hello.
I just procured my 88 GTA Notchback on saturday. It has an aftermarket head unit in the car. the stereo sounds fine but there is no bass. It has highs and mids, but no bass whatsoever.
It has the UQ7 and UK3 stereo option on it, the Gain switch ohms out good, but does not light up when turned on, is the amp bad? Where exactly is the amp located? Is there a problem with the install?
I would like to try to get the system working, as I don't really want some big amp/sub setup in my trunk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance.

Re: No bass
One option to look into:
Did the aftermarket unit get installed with a harness adapter, or were the wires spliced into? If it is the second, it is possible that the speakers may have been wired out of phase with each other. This will cancel out the bass frequencies.

Re: No bass
If you want to bypass it, I'd just pull new wire. That way, if you want to sell the car with the original stereo functional, you can just plug it back in.
Pulling wire would only take about a half hour in these cars.

Re: No bass
It does have the amplifier system in it. The previous owner already cut all the wires for the rear speakers, put in the 6x9 boxes and panels, and used the original wires to hook them up. I don't even know if the amp is any good or not, the light does not come on for the switch.

Re: No bass
I think I have come up with a solution.
I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to directly wire the rear speakers without ruining the car harness, and still have the radio easily removable.
Then I had that little little light bulb fizzle above my head. And I thought "Self, the rear speakers are on there own connector". Realizing that, I can hard wire the rear speakers, AND utilize the stock harness adapter to easily make the radio removable without any kind of funky connectors. Went to the junkyard and found a connector for all of 0 dollars, then soldered up the speaker wires to it.
I dont know if it actually works or not, wont have time to install it until next weekend, but it SHOULD.
what you think?
