what series? in most cases you will be happier with jl's. i have ran them for about 6 yuears, and now MIGHT be switching. it depends, i still might just get some w3's. but JL is better than mtx. especially in subs. you know what they say, " the best speakers come from companies that specialize in speakers."

I have a MTX Thunder 7000 and like it alot. The only complaints I have is it needs a big box.

IT depends a lot on what series you are talking about. The MTX thunder 6000 or 8000 dont sound too bad, Im not sure on the durability. Pretty much all JLs sound great...its more a matter of how good you want it to sound. Even the W0 series sounds pretty good in a sealed box, but if I were you I would go for a W3 or W6. More $$, but well worth it because they will last pretty much forever if not abused. Ive been happy with all my JL speakers and wouldnt think of buying anything else. Make your own opinions by listening but in my opinion you get what you pay for!
peace
...forgot to tell you, I used to run MTX subs and I'll never go back! (JLs sound much better!)

Go with the JL.
I have a JL 12W6 in my T/A and it sounds great, much better than my other 2 subs I've had, RF Punch 12" XLC and Kenwood 12" blue looking speaker.
