Goofing around with my amp....

OK, I have a alpine 4 channel amp with around 65 watts per channel, Now I wanted to add a single 10" sub, so what i did was hook up all four (2 4x6s and 2 6x9s) to the channels 1 and 2, ( still have balencing), ok and bridged 3 and 4 and hooked it up to a realy old 10" i have just to test it out, it seem to work pretty good, I just need good sub and box, is there anything wrong with this setup for now, I think I will eventually move up to 2 10" and a seperate amp but I don't have the money for this right now.

Sounds good to me, I'd just make sure that the amp is 2-ohm stable (in stereo mode.) which it should be, so that shouldn't be a problem. And by bridging all 4 speakers to 2 channels, you can keep the balancing but you'll lose the fade on your hu.

I don't know a number temperature-wise to tell you how hot an amp is to run. Alpines are pretty high-end units though, and I'm sure it will have an auto-shut off feature where it'll shut off if it gets too hot (to prevent any damage.)

But just make sure you mount it with the heatsinks facing up, and where it should have a significant air movement across it.

That's how my setup used to be. One 4 channel Apine V-12 running the full ranges (1&2) at @ 2 ohms/channel and bridged (3+4) running 2 10W6s at 1.5ohms. Only shut off once playing Bass Mekanic . These amps have thermal protection, so when it gets too hot, you'll know cause they will shut down.
