Speaker placement/dash modification

I am planning on getting polk 4x6's and 6x9's but I was wondering about the dash grid made of plastic. Is this necessary to protect the dash speakers from harsh sunlight? If I just cut the grid out and attached speaker cloth in its place, you think I’d have any problems? Anyone happen to know if polks run good off a deck?

Protecting the dash speakers from sunlight is a good idea if you live where the temps get extremely hot. The speakers will eventually crack. But instead of modifying your dashboard just use windshield visors (your dashboard can also start to crack too)

Polk 4x6's (and any other respectable brand) should run "good" of a high power deck. Just don't expect them to deliver sound as loud as bigger speakers

I dont want huge sound, I dont need my niece to wake up in the afternoon cause I came home listening to music (my neighbors feel it necessary.) Anyway, you think a 35watt pioneer deck thats 3 years old will do the job? I have polk rt15 speakers in my house, they are power hungry but they deliver a very smooth stable sound with full range. Not just loudness, which is why I'm pretty much going with polks for my car. (I understand large home audio speakers are going to be better. Do you have polks in your car? Sound good?)

I cut the plastic grill out and replaced it with some sound transparent cloth. The cloth has lightened a few shades from its original black and I'm going to replace it. I did this when I still have my stock units in there but now I've upgraded to a set of Cadences and they need the extra clearance the cloth gives them, but I never really thought about the UV rays going through the cloth. I'll have to see about coming up with a solution for that.

Polk Audio makes very good speakers. For the sound levels you seem to be wanting a 35w deck will be just fine. As long as it works it doesn't matter how old it is.
