2ohm component speakers
2ohm component speakers
I was looking at the specs of a pair of Image Dynamics 6.5" Chameleon components and saw that they make both 4ohm and 2ohm applications. This is the first 2ohm component set that I have seen, but is seems like a good idea. I mean, it opens up the opportunity to use much greater amounts of power without having to spend as much on an amp.
Is there something that I'm missing? Also, are there any other 2ohm components out there?

Strange, I guess I just never noticed.
I never hear anybody talk about them, are there any less than obvious setbacks? Or is it just that people don't want to commit to a 2ohm system?

There are several manufacturers that are doing this now...
I've been using the 5" ID Chamelions 2ohm for a few years now and couldn't be happier...however they sadly are going bye bye to make room for the 8/5/horn setup.
If you can jump on the 6.5's for a good price, it's a good choice. (personal opinion of course through long abusive tests and many competitions)

So...
2ohm speakers are definitely an option, then. Might just have to take advantage. Sometimes it feels like my search for "the perfect speaker setup for me" will never end.
My next question: will sound quality be affected if I run one amp (Clarion Pro Audio 5243) at 4ohms for the 6x9's and another amp (Rockford) at 2ohms to power the components?
