Mounting the amp in my hatch?

Hey guys, I have the 92 Z-28. As you know there's little trunk space. I know some guys mounted behind the rear seat, that's awesome! I just want to mount the amp on the flat surface in the trunk. What's underneath? I know it's the rear suspension, but can I screw my amp to the carpet? I can't hurt anything down there , or can I? I'll use 1 inch or less screws. If anyone has an article on the rear seat amp let me know! Thanx

An inch sounds about right to go right into your gas tank!! I sure as hell wouldn't risk it. What if you slip with the drill or holepunch?

Here's one of the messages from the last guy that asked that: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...154#post553154

Good luck!

Pull up the carpet and put a piece of 3/4 wood under it to mount the amps to. Better safe than sorry.

Do you have a vert or a coupe? I'm not sure what you mean by "trunk." ALso, what kind of box do you have? I have a custom box that sits in the back well that holds two twelves, and I just cut out a board that goes between the box and the back of the car down in the hole. Since the box has the lip on the back so it can go around the latch structure, there's about a 3" gap between it and the back of the car; just cut a piece of board, mount the amp(s) to it, and sandwich it all down in the hole. The added benefit to this is they're out of the way, no wires are showing anywhere, and thiefs can't see them.
