My System

my car is an 84 z/28, im gonna build the sub enclosure out of fiberglass, im gonna run 2 JL 12s and an MTX amp, alpine CDM-7871 head unit alpine 4 way 6x9s, pioneers in the dash, i would make kicks but theres not much room for them, also i was wonderin if anyone could tell me how much air space is there in the t top storage area, i think theres enuff for 2 12s, they call for about 1.25 cubic feet, so ill need 2.5 cubic feet, i will take some pics as i go along with the install, also my new motor 320hp 350 that im building

there is always room for kicks!

Seriously, you only use about 3" of foot room with my kicks.

There is enough room for two 15s in the hatch area if you want to put 15s instead of 12s. I have two 15 inch kickers in my hatch and they fit perfect in a camaro/firebird box I bought from a car audio store.(bigger is always better) As for the kicks, my car came equipped with a bose stereo system and had the factory kicks already there, so if you can locate them for a bose equipped car, they will work great and look factory. Hope this helps you out.

Dude, I don't know. Quality is always better

I've rarely heard a 15" sub that I liked better than the equivalent 12", but it totally depends on what kind of sound you're after. People don't just buy 10's or 12's 'cause they prefer the smaller, "inferior" setup. It's whatever sounds best to you after giving them all a listen. Not knocking 15's, I just don't think that they're the answer to everybody's system needs.

Anyway, there are some fairly creative box designs out there that can provide considerable volume for a sealed enclosure, so it shouldn't be a problem squeezing in the JL's. But I don't know any exact airspace numbers for the well.

Well, first off JL is NOT the way to go. I worked at an audio shop for a while. Sampled most speakers and bench tested them. JL has never met my requirements. I suggest some kicker solo baric square 12s, or if those are too expensive, some rockford fosgates will outperform the JLs by a longshot. And you gotta have the kicks man

YES - you can build a custom box to fit in the well area that has an internal volume of 2.5 cu.ft. (or more, especially if you go with a fiberglass box).
