Delco AM/FM Cassette Decode
Delco AM/FM Cassette Decode
Hi,
I hope you can help me.
I'm over in the U.K and have a Delco AM/FM Cassette player in my 1989
Pontiac Trans Am. My problem is that that I have repaired the casette mech,
but didn't realise that it has a code built in to it when I re connect it to
the car. Does anyone have the facilities to provide an unlock code.
I will gladly pay for the info, and really don't want to send the unit back
to the U.S.A.(cos it takes ages, and I get charged custome duty!!)
The model number of the unit is 16062322
The Serial Number is 1009031
Please let me know if you can help.
Thanks in advance.

Hey, hopefully you have steering wheel controls. You have to push the MUTE button on the Steering wheel to unlock the radio, even if it doesn't have a code stored.
Can you now help me? On the back of the radio there is 2 wires that connect on a separate plug under the main big plug. Could you tell me if they are an Orange wire and a Black with blue tracer, and if so, which on is connected to the side of the radio closest to the driver?? My plug is cut off, I think these are the two wires to the Steeing wheel controls, but I want to get the polarity right before I wire a new plug on. Thanks and good luck with yours. Is your TA a GTA? Mine is a Turbo Trans Am and I have the same number radio as you.

THE second thing is if you have steering wheel controls, the plug for the steering wheel controls has to be plugged in the back of the radio, its a small white plug, with two wires, black with blue tracer and an orange wire. This model radio will display LOC if the plug is not in or the contacts/module in the steering wheel. This model uses the steering wheel module as its security device and actually doesn't store codes as the book says(per engineer here at Delco). Hope this helps
You cannot power it up on the bench except if you take the microprocessor and keypad out of the steering wheel and hook it up to it, as the swc processor sends a serial data stream to the radio all the time, the FACTORY engineer and I just went over this on Weds, he thought he remembered a jumper inside the radio, but this model(yours and mine) doesn't have it, the TOTAL theft deterrent system is the steering wheel processor under the keypad on the wheel!!
BTW, I work here in Kokomo at the factory that built the radio, whats wrong with yours?

That sure is a TOTAL security system. good to know you're in the factory that built the thing...at least I know that you know your stuff!!
The unit is playing cassettes too quickly (they sound like the Chipmunks!)also, we thought about trying to change the e prom so that I can tune into the U. K stations which tune into frequencies at 0.05 MHz instaed of the 0.1 Mhz used in the US.
