I just bought an Aiwa CDC X-217 cd player for my Camaro last week. At first it played fine ,for the first couple of days, now it's skipping a LOT. Whenever I change lanes, or go over even small bumps in the road. Best Buy installed it and it seemed kind of loose in the dash. I temporarily tightened it up by jamming folded pieces of paper around the casing & bracing my center console, which stiffened it up a lot, but it didn't help. As ya'll probably know, our cars aren't the smoothest riding cars, but I don't think that could be the cause of this problem. Does it sound like the unit itself could be bad? This is pissing me off & I just wanted to get some opinions before I take it back to them, I won't have time for at least a week. Any tips ya'll can give me would be appreciated. Thanks!

i have an alpine CDM-7871, i installed it my self in my 84 z28, its never skipped and my road gets graded like once every few months, its horrible, take it back to them and get your money back, then go to a local stereo shop and have them install a better cd player, like an alpine

I swear i could send my camaro end over end over end and my damn Alpine would never skip. ALpine have to be one of if not the greatest CD players ever made.

I have an Aiwa from Best Buy in my 98 Escort. The only time it skips is when someone cals me on my cell phone, 'cause the holder is right by the sterio. I would take it back, it sounds like it is defective.

Why on earth would you buy an Aiwa? I used to work at Best Buy, where we sold and installed a ton of those things...and also had to uninstall about a half ton of them.

I've only rarely heard complaints about Aiwas skipping, but CDs get stuck inside them all the time. I'm a self-taught master of Aiwa CD extraction now...just 5 seconds, and a small screwdriver or pick tool, and I'll have it out for you, unscratched.

Anyway, for the price you paid for that Aiwa, you could have a reliable, name-brand unit. You could spend the same amount and get a nice JVC, or spend a few bucks extra on a Pioneer or Kenwood or Sony or something. Any of those will have a good bit more power than the Aiwa too, in my opinion.

If you do decide to keep that Aiwa, get the warranty; you'll need it.

If you want a kick a$$ cd player, go eclipse. Anyone who knows car audio will tell you eclipse is the best. I have two, one in my camaro and one in my winter beater, and ive only heard one of em skip once, and that was in the winter runnin over a curb i couldnt see. They also back their product with a 1 year anti theft warantee

Mike if it moves around they probably installed it wrong. If you car hits a bump the cd player may be hitting the upper of lower part of the brace that it sits in. If I were you I would take out the player, inspect it then install back in there yourself. You know if you want it done right do it yourself. Should be easy on these cars. I can still my own stereo in less than 45 seconds. Makes me feel real secure.
