How do you find out the wattage of a used amp? I have an old Sherwood amp here, and don't have a clue how many watts it is. I'm a "sound system rookie".

thanks to nagga here(thats who i learned it from) if you put on a 4ohm resistor or 2 whatever your gonna be running then hook up a voltage gauge. its voltage X voltage divided by ohms. hopefully that'll work

Simple ohm's law here. Just make sure the meter is reading AC instead of DC volts, since a sine wave is technically AC. Since music is dynamic, getting a steady reading may be difficult. Using a test disc that has a 1K test tone is the way to go.

also use a volt meter that has peak voltage hold, makes it way easier
