How should i face my subs?

Ok i have seen these people lately bolting in there subs backwards. what are the advatages of this. they are doing it do you cant see the face of the subs only the back. do you have to have special subs or what. also i have a bandpass kind ported box sitting around. it has a fiberglass face on the front and in the back its got ports. what whould it sound like if i put the face of the subs on the ported side. what would be the best option. and on my sealed box what would hapen if i put the face in the sealed part. sorry for being stupid about this stuff but thanks for the hellp.

Subs

I think you mean plexiglass not fiber, facing subs backward is mainly for looks, although it does displace a different amount of air that way, any sub will work. Facing subs or ports to rear of car will generaly give a better base responce as their is less cancelation, this is different than what I think you were decribing above.

Go to the store of your choice.. 99.9% you gonna have to get the custom box.. you should face them in the deep well in the back and face them up.. Mine hit the hardest that way..

The reason people face them towards the back of the car is because it does it harder..

Thats what I think..

in a hatch back car, it is actually more beneficial to aim the subs up at the glass. the sound waves (which are longer at lower frequencies) are given a longer path to develop. an easy way to witness this effect is by having your windows down and up. with windows down, the bass will be greater.

I think you guys are missing my question. ok I have my subs pointing towards the window now but i was at a car show this weekend and i saw people flipping their subs around without moving the box so the subs face inside the box and the subs are upstide down. i was wondering what the advatages to this were. do you get me. its prolly hard to understand. also with my plexi glass box for better sound should i just point my subs backwards in that or face the subs towards the plexiglass. please let me know if i am not making any sense.

i did that in my second system desighn one of the advanteges i gained was more airspace in the box. i was useing rockford power12's that had the big chrome magnets so it looked really cool.this system desighn had a 2 page write up in the june/july issue of car sound mag.

ok, i understand now. you mean inverting the subs? all it really matter is that it leaves a little more space in the box. it also looks different. either way works, its your choice

I think you are talking about downfireing the subs. In my personal experience, Downfireing the subs creates deeper louder bass but is less clear than just putting them in facing the glass. Hope this helps.

There's only two reasons to mount your subs that way:
(1) You can have a smaller box 'cause the sub isn't inside it.
(2) You think it looks cool to have tha baskets showing.

what about my bandpass box. how should i mount them in that. when i had my old subs the performance was better in the sealed box. but i have the extra bandpass i wanna try again. i saw at like best buy they had some with the subs facing the ported side and they had some facing the plexi glass side. any which way that is better?

I would keep your speakers the right way.. they sell the speakers you saw at the car show at some stores around here with nice shiny chrome magnets and other parts.. Sometimes the flip makes it sound deeper, but then theres not so much quality sound. Its your car though try whatever u want.. it's not gonna blow speakers.. so you can always change it back if an idea dont work

If you want a bandpass box to sound good then the volume of each chamber and the length & diameter of the ports needs to be calculated specifically for the drivers you are using.

If you just want to throw some subs you have lying around in a bandpass box you have lying around then it will probably sound like crap. In that case, I would try mounting them both ways and pick the way that sounds best.
