The classic question... Edelbrock or Holley?

I was told yesterday at a "carb shop" that the Edelbrock 600 is WAY more efficient and easier to work on... better gas mileage, too. O.K., the question... I'm about to take a long trip and need to know what kind of gas mileage you've experienced with either an Edelbrock or Holley 600.

Seriously tho..use the search function at the top of the page. This question has been asked about 3 dozen times.

My opinion for what it is worth is this. Buy the carb that you can work with. I think all carbs have their good and bad features and with work they can all perform well. Buy what people around you (friends other racers etc) have because then there is a pool of knowledge available to you to get your tuning right. I bought a Holley not because I was necessarily conviced it was "the best" but because everybody around here has one and I knew that I would be able to get it setup properly.

What he said, buy what you know--or what what your friends know. Holley for me.

Like they said its probably better to get the edelcrap cause its easy to work on.
But as far as fuel economy/power Holley's are the best aftermarket carb. Ive used all of the cheap 250$ carbs holleys have more power and I avarage 5+ mpg more with a stock holley vrs a stock edelbrock, Or a well tuned edelbrock for that matter.
Long trip I assume 75 MPH driving? Thats dipping into the 4bbls on and edelbrock. While the seconadries on a holley are cloed untile you need them saving you lots of fuel.

For performance I would not think of using anything but HOLLEY.

I have had nothing but trouble with holley's. It must just be my bad luck or something. I personally would go with a carter AFB carburetor. It is fairly similar to the edelbrock, but I get good gas mileage and performance out of mine. Mine is the carter AFB 625.
