I just got a new performer intake for my 355. I am planing on either running a 750 Holley double pumper or 650 Holley single pumper or Rochester Quadrajet. Which carb would you guys recommend. I am also wondering if anyone knows if this combo will clear the hood on a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am with turbo buldge hood. Thanks in advance

No problem with hood clearance. If going to an open element cleaner, get one with a drop base.

As for what carb, it depends upon what you plan to do with the car, and how much money you're willing to spend. The Holley will be much less expensive than a new q-jet, but the q-jet is a good compromise between street only and performance. The Holley wouldn't be quite as good on the street, but for the fewer bucks, you might be willing to accept it, especially if you put in a lot of track time.

I have all three carbs at the current time. I got the Rochester on the car when I bought it and then switched engines. I was having problems with the Rochester so I went to the local speed shop and got a Holley 650 CFM to go on the 305 I put in. I just got the 355 built by a local machine shop to put out 325 hp and found a guy selling a Holley 750 CFM double pumper at work that I was thinking would work well and got that cheap and was planning on using that. Then the guy who is gonna help me swap in the new engine is claiming the Rochester Quarajet is the way to go.

Car: 1983 Z28
Engine: 6.6L 406
Transmission: T-56
but what do you plan to do with the car? The quadrajet is good for the street like stated above but I feel that an aftermarket will make more power.

------------------
I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, ASCD SS hood, 16" IROC rims.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, Hurst shifter, dakota digital gauge package, procharger supercharger.
