How do you check for a blown power valve?

I keep saying I am running a tad too rich for my tastes (idle/cruise) and so Jester keeps bitching that I should check my power valve... How does one do this? I've removed the primary bowl a few times to change the jets down, so I know how to get at the metering plate. What do you do then, try to suck gas through it or what

Change it.

It's like the famous "Test Tube" that you could buy a few (well, maybe 25 or so) years ago that said in print about 1/8" tall "Verify the need" and then in print about a foot tall "To Replace Your Catalytic Converter"

If you feel like you're too rich at part throttle and idle but good at WOT before the sec's open, try dropping to the next lower power valve number. That number is the vacuum at which it closes; i.e., at vacuum levels below that it's open, vacuum above it, it's closed. Lower # valves will stay closed more of the time. Make sure the one in the sec side is a slightly lower # (like one step) than the one in the primary side.

You know I coulda sworn I've told you how to check it to...

Close the idle mix screws and start it. if it stays running, you know fuel is leaking in somewhere else, probably a blown PV. If it doesn't stay running, then it works fine. Just adjust the screws till you get the idle mix you want.

Also..once again...the cruise mix is controlled by the high speed idle bleeds. Those are not adjustable inless you drill them out, or have them drilled and tapped for screw in idle bleeds.

Also check you engine vacuum at cruise. If it is close to the power valve rating, that might be your problem.
