Need some general help and guidence

I am looking to swap my TBI to a carb, i was presently surprised to find the price of an edelbrock intake manifold for a whopping $119. and carbs for $200 or so, though I also saw some for $800.
BUT, as far as carbs go I must admit my ignorance, I know little of them. What would be the kind of carb to look for for an LO3? I am also planning on replacing my cam and possibly the heads. I'd appreciate any advice.
Note: I do NOT have any emmisions tests to pass so dont worry about that.

I happen to like quadrajets, but I also happen to be stuck with them. Give it a few minutes, and I'm sure Jester will be in here telling you to buy a Holley.

I really wouldn't recommend any of the expensive carbs, they are way overkill for your car. A good Qjet (factory or Edelcrock) or Holley (I'd suggest a vacuum secondary) should do you well. Yank all the computer crap and toss it in the fire, since your car is too new to pass emissions with any sort of carb on it anyway.

Go buy a Holley!!!!!!
Just kidding. I do prefer the Holley because everybody has one, and I like the availability of parts. I also has family that run Edelbrocks, and Q jets. A good Q jet from Jet or Edel. may get you slightly better gas mileage than a Holley or Edel. They do cost more ($400 +/-). I have a bottom of the line Holley 600 with vaccum secondaries that cost $200, I'm very happy with it.

Oh... one nore thing about Q jets: They can be tricky to tune, so I would get a shop to do it for me if I were you. Otherwise they run pretty sweet.
