new air cleaner

do i need a drop base for a 14x3? do i need an offset base to clear my distributor? I know that the edelbrock elite triangular has a drop base and clears HEI, but will that fit with a strut tower brace? i would greatly appreciate answers to any of these questions.

With my Edelbrock, a 14x3 drop base fit with a 1/2" spacer... I hear that just flat based 14"x3" filters also fit... With a Q-jet, the drop base should fit without a spacer. If your car is like mine, you should have about 2" between the filter and distributer.

Problem solved. i took a close look under the hood, and went out and bought a drop base, non offset aircleaner. it's pretty close to the dist, but who cares. The drop in the base is probably around 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I noticed a big performance improvement(i can light up the tires now), and it sounds way better. I still plan on running some sort of ducting to get cooler air there though, does anyone think that this is worth or not worth doing?
