idle won't go down....

ok i have a 85 Trans Am with a stock Rochester 4 barrel computer controlled carb. after taking the stock air cleaner housing off and replacing it with a edelbrock open air cleaner housing the idle shot up to 2500 (it normally idles at 500) and it won't go down. if you have any idea why the hell it would be doing this, please let me know. Thanks

Look around for vacuum leaks you might have opened up when you swapped over the aircleaner.

I would normally say vacuum leak, but that shouldn't shoot the idle up to 2500 RPM... How does the car drive? If you have cruise control I would check that out first and check to see that nothing is obstructing the throttle linkage... I would bet you knocked something out of place... also check to see that the carb opens and closes freely. I would check the easy things first. As I'm sure you know, the different aircleaner shouldn't do that to the carb.

Don't take the vacuum leak out of the equation just yet though, did you forget to plug the connection on the carb that went to the heat stove?

Good luck

Seen this happen before--the throttle linkage is hitting the bottom on the air cleaner.
