More but dyno testing. Open vrs single.
I've noticed along with several other people that swaping from a single snorkel air cleaner to a open 14x3 with a qjet increased rpm by 500rpm. On a recent drive out of town with my newer setup, "Holley 1850" I decided to go back to the single snorkel setup+1/4 adaptor (so the cleaner actually fits). I figured it would be a bit better on the interstate since were having 85*+ weather. After the swap back there was no loss of rpm.
.
Just out of curiousity I put a non ccqjet on it tonight to do further testing. I discovered that with the single snorkel & Qjet the car dident want to go much over 5600 RPM but with the open element filter it easily went past the tach limit of 6K.
I just though I would share and ask if anyone else noticed this??????? I wish I had a 750 holley for a closer match to the qjet but still kinda makes ya think.

my single snorkle with a K&N filter wasn't enough for my 350. it would stumble and sputter like the choke was stuck on full.
soon as I went to open element, it ran fine.

What kind of setup do you have???
My setup isnt too hot, 355, mild cam, LT1 heads and a action+ intake but it has plenty of go
. This weekend Im going to try it with the 670 SA I have on my truck for a closer comparision to the flow numbers of the Qjet but I dont think its going to act any different then the 600cfm carb.

I'm only in the high 13's, I didn't think my cleaner would be much of a problem. but after 2 weeks of trying to find out what was wrong with my carb i decided to drive it without a cleaner to see what would happen.
I got an open element the next day
I am gonna build myself a dual snorkle, CAI or a cowl induction. open element isn't the answer either.
I can literally feel the engine lose power when the unhood temp rises.
