Has anyone specifically done a TPI to cc Quadrajet conversion?
Has anyone specifically done a TPI to cc Quadrajet conversion?
Just out of curiousity, has anyone taken their TPI setup and switched to a cc quad setup (A full switch using a cc quad ecm by splicing the harness amoung everything else)?
If one was to have the Quad ECM, wiring harness ends for the Quad ECM/pinouts, an HEI cc distributor, a carb manifold, and the necc. fuel regulator (plus odds and ends, like bracket changes etc etc) --- this seems the ideal way to switch to a daily-driven/no brainer carb setup so you can retain knock sensors, computer-specific control; ie all the ammenities of the stock cc carb setup; and have a unrestricted intake for hp for much less money then mini-ram/super-ram/etc etc (Comparatively). This is all assuming one could get the cc quad components cheaply).
I always wondered if this had been done at all or if everyone just goes non-cc carb setup for switches... Overall, is this good idea? Bad idea? Uneccessary? In any case, thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I'm also wondering why you would do this. You can do quite a bit to improve the TPI without spending much money (port plenum & intake, home-made adjustable FPR), and the money you do have to spend for runners, chip, etc., would be money not spent on the CC carb equipment.
Many more people have converted from CC carb to TPI. That should tell you something.

Dont go to computer controlled carb - it sux. Take my advice, i have this setup. If you want to go to carbed, go to non computer controlled. Even do non emissions if possible.

Thanks for the input on that curiousity of mine. It seems the general opinion is to go non-cc carb period (if one was to move to a carb set-up from FI). This brings up some more questions on my end though... Assuming that all one had, carb wise, was a cc Quadrajet -- could you use that in a non-cc application? I know only the most basic info about carbs in general, so forgive me if this sounds elementary. I believe the cc-quad uses electronic choke and one computer controlled device; does this correct at all? Thanks again.

The feedback Q-jet can't be used without computer control. Without the computer controlling the mixture solenoid, the primaries will be rich all the time.
