Need help deciding on Carb for a stock 305

What size/type of carb do you guys think would be a good choice to just replace the Rochester Quadrajet that is on a STOCK 305 in a 87 base coupe. I am helping a friend on her car and she has no plans of modding it, The carb that is on there is more or less junk, it needs more than just a rebuild kit. So the thing is they want to but a whole new carb on there. Since its not very powerful, I know it doesn't need anything like a 750cfm but what do you guys think would be a good carb for it. Also what all is involved in changing the carb on that to say a Holley? Also that car should have electric choke right, so that means I would need another carb with an electric choke. The person is on a pretty tight budget, so I would like to try and keep the price down on the carb too.

To be honest with you, your best bet is to either fix the one on there, or find a used one that functions. With everything that needs to be changed or adapted to make a Holley or other spreadbore fit and bypass the computer, or put on a non-CC q-jet, it just doesn't make sense for someone who isn't up to spending money or fiddling with it.

If you posted on the classifieds on this board, you'd probably be able to pick one up for shipping.

I agree with five7kid. I replaced my carb with a Holley 650, and I need to get a spacer plate, a Holley kick-down bracket,in-line fuel filter and an Edelbrock drop base air filter just so that I could get the hood clearance. I am now going with an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold to complete the setup. It's been a real headache, to say the least.
