Q-jet Idle problem

My friend is trying to get his 84 Monte carlo on the road and we are having problems with the idle. when you first start the car it seems fine and the idle is 1000 but then when you give it some gas and rev it it idles down at 500 and is unsteady. it continues to idle this way and only gets slightly better as the car fully warms up.

Does this sound like a typical Q jet problem?
could it be the choke operation or maybe a secondary sticking open or something?

I have a TPI myself so i am just trying to help him any way I can.

Thanks for any replys

Doesn't sound like a "typical" q-jet problem, but perhaps understandable.

This is CC I presume. Sounds like a combination of choke coming off too soon, and the idle circuit adjustment.

I am not real familiar with how to adjust either the choke or the idle circuit. I would appriciate any help with those areas but in the mean time I will read my chiltons.....
