Going to a swap meet...need Q-Jet info
Hey guys I am going to an automotive flea market this weekend and need some info on Rochester Q-Jets. I am specifically looking for a 4 barrel, non-cc Q-Jet with an electric choke. Does anyone know some ID #s that I should be looking for? If I purchased a non-cc Q-Jet w/o an electric choke is there a kit to convert it over? Any info would be appreciated.
You can convert a hot-air style choke over to electric for about $45 (if it has the round choke housing on the side). The really old QJets with divorced choke element can not be converted to electric choke. Shoot me an email if you want details on how to do this- it's relatively easy.
You will never find a swap-meet QJet with a functioning electric choke element. Everyone knows they are expensive (like I said- $45 for one) and strips them off before selling them.
What to look for in a swap meet QJet (other than the usual stuff):
1. Forget about the numbers. Use your eyes.
2. Look for the right type of inlet- CHevy carbs point to the side, all others have the inlet pointing straight forward out the front of the carb.
3. Look for the right linkage on the throttle arm- does it have a kickdown cable stud (or auto trans use)? Does it have the right style throttle cable stud for your application? Do you need a mounting point for an A/C compensator solenoid? Cruise control cable? TAKE SOME PICTURES OF YOUR EXISTING THROTTLE ARM WITH YOU!

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Ontario (more specifically the Toronto area), but Barrie is a small city outside of Toronto. The website for the flea market is www.burlscreek.com (i think....if not just go to a search engine and type in burl's creek). They have a flea market in the spring and again in the fall. I go to both every year...and I always come home with something. By the way, thanks for the qjet info guys.
