GMPP ZZ4 intake manifold a good upgrade over stock?

Is the GMPP ZZ intake manifold 10185063 a good upgrade over the stock LG4 intake? I can get it for $155, which is how much an edelbrock egr maniifold is.

Here's what GM says:
"This manifold is used on all ZZ series 350 HO engines and also can be used on all small-block Chevrolet's thru 1986. This aluminum manifold produces the same horsepower as the previous high-rise design, but provides increased hood clearance and more versatility. It has a dual-pattern flange that can accommodate both standard-flange Holley and spread-bore Quadrajet four-barrel carburetors. This manifold has provisions for all late-model accessory brackets, EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), and an integral hot air choke. A heat shield can be mounted
underneath the manifold to prevent coking when EGR is used."

It is a very good piece. Mine was a take-off from a ZZ3, but the manifold itself is the same.

It raised the carb about 1/2" higher than the stock LG4 manifold. I used the heat shield from the LG4, required drilling holes for the rivets.
Other than that, I used it unmodified. I was going to gasket match it, but decided not to (mostly because of time). As is, it probably helps to have it unmatched for anti-reversion properties (the head ports are gasket matched). If it ever finds itself under a 350, I may do it then.

My current combo pulls right up to 6000 RPMs. So, the manifold works at least to that speed.

Not for $155 it isn't. It's not a bad manifold, but there are better aftermarket manifolds available.

Not if you need EGR.

As stated on the thread you posted on the other forum, look for a take-off. One of those is likely to cost even less than "other" aftermarket manifolds.

I also have this ZZ4 manifold with CC Qjet on a new 350 built similar to 57's 305 (w/ World SR Torquers). I though this manifold was the Performer EGR just re-badged for GM. If it ever stops raining in the northeast I might get it to the track and get a time......

Edelbrock does a Vortec manifold sold through Chevy dealers, but I've never heard that about the ZZ4 intake.
