What size carb

I'm used to having cars w/ throttle bodies and I just got a carbed 82 t/a. It has a 406. I was wondering what size carb I should get to feed 406 cubes. It has some gay intake manifold and I figured when I swap it (for a victor jr) I would get a new carb as well. This is just a weekend car and I am not really concerned about gas mileage(I'm all about performance). The guy b4 me had it dyno'ed and it has like 398 to the wheels. Now it has a 600cfm but it seems choked. Should I go to a 750 or larger. While I don't care about mileage I do want to keep the car streetable. I dont wanna go 750 if that is too small. Any help would be appreciated.

The car runs faster lean, but if you go with nos a lean motor will have trouble with it. I would look into a 700-750. I put a 750 on my 350, it runs rich. Too rich, but down the road it will be fine for her.

I just installed an Edelbrock 750 performer.
This carb is a winner. Very smooth, responsive and more power full than my holley. I imeediatly noticed the stronger top end in 3rd gear. My vericom results backed this up. And my holley is a good carb. I won't be trashing my holley (had it for 25yrs) but this ones a winner.

On my motor it needed no adjustment or jet change.
I picked up .2 sec et and 2 mph on my Vericom
with this carb.
Get one. Edelbrock #1407 Get a fuel pressure regulator
too if you're pump has more than 6psi at idle.

Exactly what "gay intake" do you have?

The intake I currently have is a performer. I wanted somthing w/ a little more rpm capabilty(w/ the new cam) so I ordered the torqer II. How are the holley street avengers? So far yall think 750 ill do it right? I figured I'd need to go bigger.

You could always do the old
cubic inch*max rpm/3456 @100% VE

Remember though most street cars will only achieve 95-97% VE.

its all on how you set it up, a 750 is perfect for that motor, maybe on the small side. Chrysler had it figured out with the TA challengers, those little 340 six paks flow over 1000 cfm and let me tell ya about throttle response, your head is glued to the seat
