Idle too high
Ok, I fixed my choke yesterday and now the car idles a little high. Before, it would level off idle around 500-800 RPM(usually stays near 750). Now, it started idling at 1500-1600 RPM(this was with the air cleaner off and after the engine had heated up).
I gave the engine a good 4000 RPM rev and then it leveled off 1000 RPM. I am guessing the fuel delivery is a little inconsistent. I think it may have backfired once after the rev too, couldn't really get the car to do it again.
About 3 weeks ago, I pulled the throttle to WOT and the carb shot fire out of the AV blades(the big plate in the back) when they opened, could this be related? The car hasn't done it since.
Any idea of what could cause this? Or is this a normal idle?
Thanks in advance.

I doubt it has anything to do with fuel delivery. Most likely related to the fast idle cam sticking, and/or idle adjustments. It should idle at about 500 in drive (mine idles consistently at 550 in drive when warm).
Flames out of the AV when reving it with no load probably means the AV tension isn't adjusted properly.
Is your choke pull-off working properly? Just curious.

The choke pull-off is a vacuum device located on the front passenger corner of the carb. It has a short rubber tube going to a vacuum port on the carb.
Have you located the fast idle cam? It's a green weight-looking thing on the passenger side between the choke thermostat housing and the carb body. With the throttle slightly open, it should move freely up and down. The purpose of the weight is to let it drop down as the thermostat warms up.
If this is occurring when the weight has dropped all the way down, you have one of the idle set screws turned in too much.
