WAY to rich
i have an 84 camaro with an 87 rochester quadjra-crap on it. its been running very rich and if you look into the carb while its idling you can see it pouring fuel into the engine. i took the carb apart and everything looked fine to me, what do you think this could be? could the electronics have anything to do with it? theres a blue and a black wire that go into the top of the carb, what is this for? thx.

If the needle and seat are fine and the float level is right, check the return line on the fuel pump.

i found out that it is the mixture controle selenoid. its not going up and down like it should. i think my best bet is just to get a new carb when i can afford one.

New carb - $250-$500. Plus the distributor you'll need to buy, adapter or intake manifold required because square-bores don't bolt to the factory manifold, TCC lock-up you'll need to rig up (assuming you have an auto tranny), poorer gas mileage you'll have to live with, etc.
New MCS - $39.99 plus shipping from http://www.carbs.net/quadrajet.asp .
Rebuilt E4ME for '84 Camaro - $329.50 + $50 core + shipping from same outfit, plus living happily ever after.
CC q-jets are not "crap". They are very good at delivering good driveability, gas mileage, and performance when set up right (and that doesn't take a lot of effort or money), and less expensive than most any other option out there if your car already has one on it. That's not bias talking, that's the voice of experience.
