Quick question on carbs... difference in design...

This carb has 4 venturies, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1866364014

And is called a 4 barrel carb...

this one only has 2 venturies but is also called a 4 barrel.

i'm confused... what does that raised part do that the other one doesn't need... I understand the first one is all out race carb...

Take it easy on me, I'm picking out a carb to sit on my 350, vortec head motor and I wanna learn as much as I can before I buy... i've been told to go with edlebrocks because they'er user friendly and good on gas, which is what I want, but I've also heard the horror stories, which brings me to Holley... the creme de la creme.[

So I'm a newbie to carbs... can someone explain it real simple-like to me?

Those are both 4 barrel carbs, they both have 4 venturies. The on that you said had 2 venturies, they are hidden under the choke butterfly valves. The carb you said has 4 venturies is a race carb, i doesn't have a choke to restrict flow.

Ahh! I get it... wow that was an easy to understand answer.

Looking back... I feel dumb even asking it. Thanks again!
